SERVICES
The Association for the Physically
Disabled – Greater Johannesburg provides
the following services at grassroots level:
SOCIAL WORKERS
SERVICES to assist people with
disabilities (PWD’s) and their families
to resolve their personal problems ? both psychological
and physical – and empower them to develop
towards an independent lifestyle.
HOME-BASED / ATTENDANT
CARE SERVICES dealing with the
daily physical needs of the permanently and
temporarily disabled eg feeding, bathing, dressing,
general hygiene, tidying up the room, light
meal preparation, incontinent management, dressing
of bedsores and rehabilitation exercise programmes.

PROTECTIVE WORKSHOPS,
which are safe, disabled-friendly environments
providing opportunities for PWD’s to develop
and improve their skills and to earn an income
to supplement their pensions
DAVEYTON EARLY
CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND MOTIVATION CENTRE,
which provides assessment and stimulation services
for young children with disabilities and training
of their families.
OPERATION MOBILITY.
Wheelchair repair and rental
service to members of the public as well as
to private and public sector companies/organisations.
SKYWARD EMPLOYMENT SERVICE,
which prepares PWD’s for the open labour
market and identifies employment opportunities
for PWD’s.
BARRIER BREAKERS
(BB) , has public awareness
campaigns designed to break down barriers between
PWD’s and able-bodied individuals of all
ages. It also assists employers with all aspects
of diversity training and facilitation/accommodation
issues pertinent to PWD’s. Income generated
in aid of service delivery to PWD’s.

close collaboration with the APD to address
the following issues: Accessibility Audits,
Disability Awareness & Sensitisation,
Education & Training of decision-makers,
Reasonable Accommodation, Staff Recruitment
and Team Building exercises.
